For some reason, the Auto-Captions sticker would only show up when creating reels but not for stories. This was driving me bonkers. But I found an easy and quick workaround how you get those nice auto-generated captions on your story videos which is super important when people watch your stories on mute. Ready to unlock Instagram’s Caption Sticker on Stories? Here’s the easy hack you’ve been searching for…
1. Create a Reel – Record or upload a short video (just say a couple of words).
2. Tap ‘Next >’ and then the Sticker Icon – You should see the Captions sticker appear for Reels. Tap on the sticker and wait for the auto-captions to generate. If you can’t find the sticker, go back to your video and click on ‘edit video’ in the bottom left corner. At the bottom you’ll find different options, scroll to the right and you should find an option for ‘captions’. Tap on it.
3. Exit Without Posting – Delete or save the Reel as a draft if you want, but no need to actually post.
4. Open Stories – Record or upload your Story video.
5. Tap on the Sticker Icon and use Recently Used Sticker – Once you are in your sticker overview, you probably won’t find the captions sticker. Tap on the search bar at the top but don’t type anything! Your recently used sticker should show up and you now should find the ‘Captions’ sticker to generate auto-captions for your story unter ‘Recent’ stickers. If you actually search for the ‘Captions’ sticker, it won’t show up. Don’t ask me why. Instagram doesn’t always make sense. So just leave the search tab empty and click on it to access your recently used stickers.
Boom! Now your Stories have auto-captions. Just like Reels. Easy peasy!
